Dr. Pepper Strawberries & Cream

I was recently informed that Dr. Pepper released a new flavor at the beginning of February. I have since tried this flavor, and these are my observations about it.

How does Dr. Pepper Strawberries & Cream look?

The first impression was the design of the can; it wasn’t clean and simple enough for my tastes, and it seemed maybe a little dated. If you are wondering why the can’s design matters, it’s because I tend to be a visual person, and an attractive design draws my attention, whereas a poor design subconsciously repels me. Besides, I derive as much joy from a neat design as I do from a delicious beverage.

Promptly following the opening of the can, I noticed that the immediate vicinity was filled with the fragrance of strawberries, though my focus was quickly drawn toward the color; it was not the deep red that I was imagining, but an ordinary brown. This color is not unpleasant, but it is bland when compared the precedent that Dr. Pepper Cherry set with its unique, burgundy liquid.

What does Dr. Pepper Strawberries & Cream Taste Like?

The answer is straightforward: it tastes like strawberries and cream, hence the name. Well, in theory, that is.

The company claims that this flavor is the only strawberry and cream flavored dark soda currently on the market, and that the flavor is their original 23 flavors swirled with layers of refreshing strawberry flavor and a smooth, creamy finish.

In my opinion, there is a faint remanent of Dr. Pepper’s delicately balanced, original flavor, but it is mostly muted by the taste of strawberry. The strawberry flavor itself is underwhelming to me, since it tastes almost exactly like an artificial strawberry flavored medicine that I have had. I also did not notice any creamy flavor, though this beverage was amazingly smooth. When Taster Number 2 mentioned that they tasted vanilla, I did realize that the empty can had a pleasant, vanilla scent.

Although this flavor was unremarkable to me, it was not awful; I do enjoy the flavor of the original Dr. Pepper more than I enjoyed this flavor, but I would take Strawberries & Cream over nothing. It may be unfair to compare Dr. Pepper Strawberries & Cream to Dr. Pepper Cherry, but I had high expectations after thoroughly enjoying Dr. Pepper Cherry with its delicious flavor, rich color, and fascinating design.

One way in which Dr. Pepper has outdone Coca-Cola is that, unlike Coca-Cola Creation’s fast paced flavor releases that disappear within several months, Dr. Pepper Strawberries & Cream is a permanent flavor, and those who love this flavor will be able to consume it for the foreseeable future.
