Coca-Cola’s New Starlight

You may know by now that Coca-Cola has released a new and limited flavor: Starlight! Whether you are looking for opinions on this new flavor, looking to learn more about it, or simply looking for entertainment, I think you will enjoy this post.

What is Starlight?

Starlight is Coca-Cola’s newest flavor, as of the writing of this post. The company describes this beverage as having a “new, but familiar great Coca-Cola taste,” they say it even has a subtle cooling sensation, in their words, “a cooling taste sensation evoking the feeling of a journey to space.” Ok, Coca-Cola, can we at least remain a little down-to-earth? Let’s see if starlight is anything more than the hype!

Coca-Cola states that Starlight is a limited edition, and will only be available for a short amount of time, likely several months. If you intend to try this flavor, don’t wait too long!

What does starlight taste like?

The first thing that I noted was that starlight has the reddish color that they claim; it’s especially nice looking, in my mind.

Starlight illuminated from behind to show color.

With my first sip, I thought it didn’t taste much different from regular Coca-Cola, and even after several more sips, it tasted like regular Coke with a slight, almost fruity, flavor. A couple minutes and several sips later, I began to feel the cooling sensation in my mouth and throat; it was similar, if not identical, to the characteristic cooling of menthol.

The cooling was prolonged and lasted around ten minutes, and in the moment, it felt like an infinite flavor. I would not recommend consuming this beverage before any other food item, just like minty gum or black licorice, although, I would not say that Starlight is as strong as mint gum.

What interested me most was the way that I could taste a cool, fruity flavor, yet the classic Coke flavor still distinctly shone through. Don’t think of it as a flavored Coke, think of it as a Coke with a boost. Flavored Cokes hit you with an immediate and intense wall of flavor, but this beverage takes Coca-Cola’s classic flavor and builds on it.

The can I consumed was only 7.5 ounces, which I thought was stupidly small, but after finishing it, I realized that its small size makes you savor this flavor; it’s an experience, not a thirst-quencher. A family member described it as gourmet, and I would agree.

My family members that tried Starlight sure had their opinions, some of which were humorous. Here is what they had to say about Starlight:

“It’s like cotton candy and skittles and something icky. Two sips and done.”

Tester One

“It’s good, I like it. It tastes like a sparkling cider.”

Tester Two

“It’s red. It tastes like Skittles. It’s good, I like this flavor better than regular Coke and Cherry Coke. Not an everyday flavor, it is more fancy. Almost a blackberry flavor; It is different. The flavor could last years in your mouth. The small can is a good amount. I would have it again.”

Tester Three

Overall, I enjoyed this flavor, and I would consume it again! Even two, of the three of my family members that tried it, liked it!

Have you tried Starlight? If so, what did you think of it?
